We're Danny and Kasia. We have two daughters, three and six — which means we know two things very well. How much a little girl loves to feel like the most magical person in the room. And how much cheap plastic that joy usually comes wrapped in.

Somewhere in our house right now there are five or six toy crowns. Most are broken: the paint has flaked, the stick-on "jewels" have peeled away, the bands have snapped. Each one cost about ten euros. Add them up and we'd already spent sixty — on things that were landfill within months.

There's a Dutch saying for exactly this: goedkoop is duurkoop — cheap is expensive. Buy the cheap thing and you buy it again, and again. And the planet keeps the receipt every single time.

What we kept noticing

Here's what really started it. When our girls wear something that feels genuinely special — not another toy, but something real — they change. They stand a little taller. They glow. It's a small, enormous kind of joy, and we kept thinking it deserved better than something headed for the bin by summer.

So we set out to make the crown we wished existed: one, made properly. Cast and plated like real jewellery, with stones that are set, not glued. A crown worth wearing on the day — and worth keeping long after it.

The name

Fonkelle comes from the Dutch word fonkelen — to sparkle, to twinkle, the way a gem catches the light or a star glints in a clear night sky. It's the feeling we want every child to carry: not the sparkle of the crown, but the sparkle in her.

That's our promise, in three words: Watch her sparkle.

One, made well

A Fonkelle crown is a gift with a second life. On the day, it's the centre of everything — worn, photographed, adored. Afterwards it becomes a keepsake: back in its box, brought out at the next birthday, and one day, perhaps, handed to a daughter of her own.

One thing made well, instead of ten made badly. Less in the landfill, more on the shelf — the kind of thing a family actually keeps.

Quiet, not loud

Magical can still be refined. We believe premium comes from restraint — clear stones with a few jewel-toned accents, gentle symmetry, room to breathe. Never a carnival of colour, never cheap costume shimmer. Closer to fine jewellery than the toy aisle, which is exactly the point.

For the girl who feels everything

Fonkelle isn't tied to one occasion. It's for a milestone birthday, a moment that deserves marking, or simply a girl who deserves to feel like the most magical person in the room — the quiet, important days a family remembers, marked with something real. Something she'll keep. Something she might one day pass on.

We're a young brand, made in Europe, with our heart in the Netherlands and our eyes on the world. The first collection is on its way.
